I would hardly ever think of what those metal plates are called. They emerge from under the ground at a level crossing to prevent cars from moving further each time the train is near. But thanks to www.oontz.ru reader Ol’ga Romashova now I know the name – level crossing barriers (it’s that simple!) have a very special sound.

So, here is the archive recording – November 2008 which happen to be outstandingly warm, Vifanskaya street level crossing, the buzzer, plates going doing and subsequently the cars slowly getting over it. My thanks go to Olya, and to everyone out there – do not hesitate to ask for Sergiyev Posad sounds, old and new. Please click here.
